Want your hair transplant to have the best outcomes? Seeking natural-looking hair transplant results in or near Charlotte, North Carolina? Look no further than Dr. Jerry Cooley’s internationally recognized practice. Cooley Hair Center utilizes advanced techniques that restore hairlines so seamlessly your barber might not even notice. For hair transplantation, we use the procedures known as Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). At Cooley Hair Center, we believe that our patients deserve the best hair restoration results and that they shouldn’t settle for anything less than cutting-edge methods wielded by a team of hair transplantation experts.

Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) in Charlotte

In an FUE procedure the scalp is numbed with local anesthesia and a small handheld punch device is used to remove individual follicular units from the back and sides of the head. The follicles in these areas are more resistant to hair loss. All grafts are placed in a holding solution containing special vitamins and nutrients to preserve the follicular units. Then Dr. Cooley transplants them one-by-one into the targeted areas, carefully placing them in patterns that mimic the natural growth of the hair in the surrounding area.

Scarring is virtually nonexistent after FUE as the procedure does not require long incisions. After Follicular Unit Excision surgery, a light dressing is applied and the patient returns the next day to have it removed. The scalp is inspected and afterwards, usually no dressing is needed. Patients will experience minimal discomfort and swelling of the scalp following FUE. Most patients will take oral pain medication for a few days and return to normal activities within only a coupe of days.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) in Charlotte

During FUT, the scalp is numbed with local anesthesia and a strip of skin is removed from the side or back of the head. The donor site is sutured shut with dissolvable stitches and the strip is dissected to harvest follicular units that are individually transplanted into the thinning or bald areas. FUT can leave some scarring, but it can be concealed by surrounding hair. The trade-off is more hair can be harvested with FUT than FUE.

For post-operative care after FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation, the scalp will be slightly red and some swelling may occur. Most side effects will diminish within the first week of recovery. The donor area may feel tight and slightly sore for one to two weeks. Scabs and crusting will develop in the transplant sites. Patients should refrain from touching their scalps during recovery as grafts may become easily dislodged, harming results.

Because of strip removal, patients recovering from FUT may require more downtime than those recovering from FUE. FUT patients should expect to take three to five days off from work. Exercise and strenuous activities can resume three weeks after.

How to get the best hair transplant results?

For optimal outcomes, it is crucial to select a doctor who specializes in and has a deep understanding of hair loss and hair restoration, with experience in performing hair transplants regularly. This is what Cooley Hair Center offers. Dr. Cooley and his team of experts are leaders in the field of hair restoration.

This process is both a science and an art, so a good hair restoration surgeon must have a keen sense of aesthetics. And the surgeon must be supported with an experienced and dedicated crew utilizing cutting-edge technology. Creating natural-looking hairlines requires skill and finesse. The surgeon must take great care in placing grafts in the thinning areas in a way that blends with the patterns of surrounding hair growth. Such attention to detail is required to produce a seamless outcome. Patients should accept nothing less than the best.

Which is better, FUT or FUE?

Between FUE and FUT, which method is right for you ultimately depends on the state of your hair, your desired results, the advice of your hair loss surgeon, and sometimes just your own personal preference.

Hair transplants offer a rewarding, effective and long-lasting treatment option for those suffering from hair loss. While surgical hair restoration can reshape and rebuild your hairline, they are just one step in a comprehensive hair restoration process to truly combat hair loss from all angles. This can also include complementary treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACells to enhance hair transplantation results by promoting follicle regeneration and tissue healing after the operation.
