At the Cooley Hair Center, we are pleased to offer hair follicle banking through HairClone, located in the UK. Dr. Cooley has been involved in the quest to ‘clone’ hair for many years, first with his association with InterCytex, and now with their successor HairClone. Banking your hair now will give you the chance to use the best hair when the technology is perfected. As we age, our cells age too; using younger cells will give you the best chance of achieving the optimal results. While we do not know when the ‘cloning’ treatments will be available, active research is underway and many patients who have researched this field are taking advantage of this unique service. A small number of hair follicles will isolated and sent to the UK for cryostorage; this can be done at the time of your hair transplant or as a stand alone service.

How it works?

  • Around 100 whole hair follicles are removed during surgical procedure and placed in a preservative
  • Follicles are shipped to the UK and cryopreserved
  • Samples are kept under carefully controlled conditions until required by the patient
  • If and when tissue is needed for treatments, samples can be thawed and cells cloned

Potential uses for banked follicles

MATRIX KERATOCYTES – Produce the hair shaft under control of the dermal papilla. Have potential for aiding in wound healing

DERMAL SHEATH CELLS – Found at the bottom of hair follicles and can help stimulate hair growth. Being investigated for repairing tendons

BULGE EPITHELIAL STEM CELLS – Numerous groups are developing technologies using these highly regenerative stem cells to treat many condition including nerve damage and loss of vision

HairClone's cell therapy

For androgenic alopecia (pattern hair loss) HairClone have successfully:

  • Isolated dermal papilla (DP) cells from banked follicles.
  • Multiplied DP cells over 1000 times
  • Now aiming to build on preclinical data to show clinically that injected DP cells
    • Replace lost DP Cells in miniaturising follicles
    • rebuild and thicken hair
    • reprogram follicles to be DHT insensitive

I have seen Dr Cooley for several hair transplant sessions and I can say with my experience from a few other hair transplant Dr's I have done sugery with that they don't even come close to Dr Cooley's work. This Dr is very professional and he takes pride in his work. I would love to do another surgery with him I just don't know if I have enough donor area left. Go see him you will not be disappointed I can say this with certainty!
